an illustrated lecture by Ross W. Duffin — Mar 26, 2017
How do you sing The St. Matthew Passion, when only half of it survives? An illuminated manuscript from around 1500 preserves Richard Davy’s masterpiece, but it’s missing the first 11 movements AND soprano & tenor parts for the next 12.
In this multi-media presentation — co-sponsored by the English-Speaking Union, Cleveland Branch — hear how Quire Cleveland’s artistic director, Ross W. Duffin, reconstructed it. A quartet of Quire singers previews the music, so that you can rediscover this magnificent work.
Everyone is welcome! You don’t have to be a member of the Hermit Club or ESU-Cleveland or anything else to enjoy this talk, with complementary hors d’œuvres, a post-lecture reception, and cash bar.
Reservations recommended. Contact John Rampe at 216-403-2318 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Checks payable to ESU-Cleveland can be sent to 1246 High St, Fairport Harbor, OH 44077.
